SporeAlert Biological Indicators with Culture Media and Service - 12 test envelopes per order.
Mail in your spore test and get results within 24 hours (Steam), 72 hours (Chemical Vapor), 7-days (Dry Heat or EtO Gas).
Product code: BI-SA12-Kit
These tests monitor sterilization processes in Steam Autoclaves, Ethylene Oxide (EtO) Sterilizers and Dry Heat (DH) Sterilizers.
The SporeAlert Biological Indicator Test with Culture Service is a reliable and compliant method for monitoring steam, ethylene oxide, and dry heat sterilization and chemical vapor sterilizer cycles in clinical and non-clinical settings. These test strips, prepared from Geobacillus stearothermophilus and Bacillus atrophaeus spores, come in a test envelope containing two test strips (one test strip with a matching lot# control strip) in two color-separated pouches. The D-values and Survival/Kill performance data comply with U.S. Pharmacopeia requirements.

How long does it take to get SporeAlert results?
How long does it take to get SporeAlert results?
Results are ready 1 day after the lab receives the test for steam, 3 days for chemical vapor, and 7 days for dry heat and EtO gas sterilizers. Results are available online 24/7.
Which sterilizers can SporeAlert monitor?
Which sterilizers can SporeAlert monitor?
Steam autoclaves, ethylene oxide (EtO) gas, dry heat and chemical vapor sterilizers. Each test strip carries both Geobacillus stearothermophilus and Bacillus atrophaeus spores, so one kit covers all four processes.
What happens if a SporeAlert test fails?
What happens if a SporeAlert test fails?
All unsatisfactory results are verified with a secondary confirmation before they are reported.
Which kit size should I order?
Which kit size should I order?
Each envelope is one test. The 52-test kit covers weekly testing of one sterilizer for a year, the 26-test kit covers every other week, and the 12-test kit covers monthly testing. Each sterilizer needs its own test.
Who processes the tests?
Who processes the tests?
Woodhouse Laboratories, an owner-operated infection control laboratory in Ferndale, WA.
How often should I spore test my sterilizer?
How often should I spore test my sterilizer?
The CDC recommends biological monitoring (spore testing) of each sterilizer at least weekly, and with every load that contains an implantable device. Your state or local regulations may require more frequent testing.
What should I do if a spore test fails (positive result)?
What should I do if a spore test fails (positive result)?
Take the sterilizer out of service and repeat the spore test right away using the same cycle. If the mechanical and chemical indicators show the sterilizer is working properly, a single positive result often points to operator error, such as loading or packaging. If the repeat test is also positive, do not use the sterilizer until it has been inspected or repaired and passes spore tests in three consecutive cycles.
Isn't the color change on the pouch or tape enough?
Isn't the color change on the pouch or tape enough?
No. Chemical indicators show that the sterilizing agent reached the item, but they do not prove sterilization was achieved. Only a biological indicator (spore test) confirms that highly resistant spores were killed.
Mail-in or in-office spore testing: which is better?
Mail-in or in-office spore testing: which is better?
Both are accepted. Mail-in services do the incubation and recordkeeping for you, but results depend on mail transit time. In-office systems give results in 24 to 48 hours, or minutes with rapid-readout indicators, but your staff must incubate and keep the records.
